Osazua IVBAZE writes Former President, Jonathan
Dear Sir.
I don’t know if this letter will ever get to you. And if it gets to you I wouldn’t know if you will
contemptuously brush it aside from the way Julius Caesar ignored Atimedorus's letter while on his way to the Capitol where he was murdered by Cassius— organized conspirators.
Sir, I have been praying that the rising speculation that you are being encouraged to contest the 2023 presidential polls, is not true.
However, if you have actually been approached by any person or group of persons, I wouldn’t know what your response is.
Today, you enjoy enormous goodwill and command respect in the global space where you are seen as the face of democracy.
This is because of the manner in which you conceded victory and accepted defeat in the 2015 polls, even though there were justifiable grounds to halt the process,
By that singular action, you saved the country from what may have been the bloodiest chapter in Nigerian history.
In recognition of your patriotic intervention, President Buhari regularly engages you in the prosecution of shuttle diplomacy in troubled theatres on the African continent where your voice is highly respected. Your personal democratic attitude, as exemplified in 2015, has won for you, not just domestic ovation, but also international respect.
What else do you want?
If it is true that you have been approached to contest the 2023 polls with the assured backing of President Buhari— as being highly rumored, please turn down the offer. Those behind this project want to destroy you.
In the first place, they know you are a weak guy who is only needed for the continuation and effulgence of Buhari’s Northernisation policy. They know you have nothing to offer any more in providing leadership in a country that is on edge— fatally wounded and badly damaged by reactionary forces.
You do not have the grit; the courage; the leadership to reset a collapsing Nigeria. Your endless smiles, infectious humility, and gentleman-ness are not what we need now. By nature, you are a good man. However, your goodness cannot reset Nigeria.
Of truth, those who want you to come back merely want to exploit your weaknesses in seasoning or garnishing their interests. They used you in the past; this time around they will skin you because they know you have no resistance.
The country is so battered now that if you fall for the bait, you will live to regret why you allowed yourself to be used by the destroyers of Nigeria.
Please, stay away from active politics and continue to play a mediating role anywhere there is a crisis in and outside Nigeria.
Please, shift your head away, so that this stone coming straight to your eyes will not cause your blindness.
Your enemies are plotting your destruction
Be wise,
Your brother
